Students work with professional dancers to learn Chinese ribbon or fan dance techniques. Drawing from the lesson, students discover how movement evokes feelings and images; how different movements are integrated and combined to create new ones; and how to begin composing a group dance. The 45-minute lesson includes learning Chinese hand gestures and their symbolic meanings, stories about how they relate to everyday life, simple Chinese vocabulary, and dance routines for groups and individuals.
