A Dance for Life
"A Dance for Life" was created to benefit Dancers Responding to AIDS. I wanted to believe that we as dancers are more than just steps and that together we can create something greater than ourselves. I was inspired by the simple yin and yang of fist meeting hand. It represents the idea that to things so different can become one, but oneness happens by choice not by accident. That idea is physicalized in the dance (the upper body is smooth like the hand, the tap is strong like the fist). At the end the pedestrians are smooth, the tap dancers are strong and they choose to "become one." To meet for a common purpose greater than one.
