This piece represents the internal conflicts that occur when my female identity limits my upward mobility. It is an exploration of how we as women can love and accept ourselves even though everything feminine about us has been exploited and labelled as inferior, encouraging self-loathing. Some movement themes include emphasizing things that are seen as inherently feminine such as longer hair and hips. I have paired these with a lot of strong, heavy, loud and spacious movements in an attempt to redefine femininity. There is also a theme of washing off the image society puts on women, which is represented by the dancers washing their hair.
