Joy - Choreography by John Castagna
John Castagna’s JOY is choreographed for six dancers to Debussy’s “L’isle
joyeuse”. The musical score (1904) was inspired by a painting by the French artist
Watteau “Pilgrimage to Cythera”, the Greek island where the goddess Aphrodite
was born and this is reflected in the opening tableau of the dance. In JOY the
dancers celebrate the strength of love and honor the concept of equal marriage
for all.
