We Rise - Thalema Williams Choreography May 17, 2016 | DanceLema | More on General
'We Rise' is an original piece with a fusion of dance styles set to poetry,…and music creating a story that each of us can relate to or has gone through. With this piece, I wanted to showcase that everyone has experience a moment in their life of fear, pain, loss, or disappointment. However, if 'We as a World' standing together despite it all, we will rise together. 'We Rise' speaks volumes about continuing to have hope, faith, and love for one another. Through the words of poet-Maya Angelou and the lyrics of Andra Day, I created a piece that incorporates artistry, musicality, emotion, technique, and a story line. With each movement in 'We Rise' the viewers will know that this piece is Thalema Williams' choreography. I hope 'We Rise' touches your heart and is truly memorable. I would like to thank Capezio A.M.E. Awards Competition 2016, Dance Teacher Summit, & Dance Media for given me the platform to showcase my piece. I would like to thank Zurisaddai Nikko Corona Jr.-videographer, Ke'Andre Parris, Tayesha Williams, my phenomenal dancers, and all the viewers. Together we can move mountains and Rise.Read More

We live in a world that is built for men. Rewards men. Glorifies men. Even…phrase "like a girl" is used in a derogatory sense. Ladies, how many times have we struggled to act more "masculine" in order to be taken seriously? How many times have we been broken down into nothing more than our physical attributes or our "irrational" emotions? We are not weak. We are not silly girls. We are not here for your pleasure. This may be a man's world...but it's nothing without a woman or a girl.Read More

It is the one thing that demands to be felt. The one thing that aggressively…your attention. The one thing that everyone could live without. Well...perhaps not everyone. There are some of us, who find the symphony in suffering quite beautiful. We hear the music better when it is accompanied with distress. We know that to offer a rose without thorns is to only offer half of the rose's beauty. For some of us...Pain Is HomeRead More
