Give Me A Mingus January 10, 2017 | funnyshaffer | More on Performance
In the age of social media, instant gratification, and fame––we often struggle to find a…where we fit in. The pressure to succeed often eclipses the importance of connectivity and the ability to experience a real moment with another human. The wonderfully chaotic rhythms of Charles Mingus' jazz music provides the ideal soundtrack for the dancers from Slippery Rock University in, Give Me A Mingus, to explore the light––and darkness that exists in all of us. Using patterns, themes of communication, and classic jazz movement I hope to inspire laughter, thought, and an opportunity for audiences to put down their smartphones and react to live theater. *Program Note: This video has been edited down to a five minute excerpt in order to meet the eligibility requirements of the Capezio A.C.E. Awards. If selected, the piece will be restaged accordingly. The original work was seven minutes in length.Read More

"Got Soul?" by Online Dance Company December 27, 2016 | ODC | More on General
"We all have a soul. For some it is in everything they do, for others…is all that they feel. For some it is brilliant, for others passionate. Every soul is fear and courage. It’s highs and lows. It is the conquest. It's defeats. Every soul is love and war. It's music, it's silence. It's a drama. It is peace. It's all or nothing. For some it is joy, curiosity. It's a new challenge. It is a dream come true. For some it is to fall. For others to stand up. We all have a soul. They say that the eyes are the mirror of the soul. But the soul is seen in the body." by CifrãoRead More
